Praying together - thoughts for the second week of Home Learning

26th Mar 2020

Good morning everyone!

How are you all getting on with Home Learning?

None of us could ever have predicted that we’d have to close our school indefinitely a few weeks before the Easter holidays.  We had such a busy time planned leading up to the Easter break; our Primary 7 children were preparing for Confirmation; Primary 4 children were looking forward to their First Holy Communion.

Then Coronavirus happened.

These days are very different to what we had planned, but we have a wonderful opportunity to use them in a very different way. We have the opportunity to spend a bit more time than usual with our families and we have the promise that someday this will all be over and we will be able to go back to living more like we’ve been used to doing.  We have the opportunity, too, to carry on with our learning, the teachers have been very busy getting lots of resources ready for you.  Remember to keep in touch to let us know how you are getting on, email in a photo or a comment. We love reading them!

Every morning, we start our day in school with a prayer. Remember to say a prayer as you start your school work. Some classes have been using Pope Francis’ 5 Finger Prayer from time to time, so this is just a suggestion that you might want to use: join your hands with your fingers pointing up and focus on each pair of fingers in turn:

  • Thumbs are closest to you, pray for all who are close to you, your family and friends
  • First fingers, pray for those who guide you in your life, especially Fr White and your teachers
  • Middle fingers, pray for the leaders of the world, the Pope, world leaders and especially at this time, those who are leading and working in hospitals and in medical research
  • Fourth fingers, pray for those who are the weakest in our society and world, especially those who are affected by this virus and other illnesses, the homeless, those who have no one to care for them
  • Smallest fingers, remember to pray for yourselves, that you will stay positive and happy through this time. Keep in touch with your friends too:  and when you’re doing that, remember to use kind words.  Help each other.  Make each other laugh.  This isn’t an easy situation for any of us; in a world where you can be anything, be kind.
