Pirates and other fun activities from Primary One and Two
The Primary One and Two have had a really busy half term finding out about pirates. They took on the role of pirates in the pirate ship role play area, sank ships in the water tray, searched for treasure in the sand trays, played pirate board games and explored the life of pirates and the clothes they wear on the touch panel. Fantastic displays were created of sloops and square rigger ships and they labelled all the important parts. The Earl floor robots helped them hunt for treasure around Treasure Island and this led beautifully into creating their own treasure maps with a partner. Pirate ships were created using play dough and sticks and secret pirate codes developed by the primary Two’s for the Primary Ones to crack. In the past week every child created a very unique pirate, and with the help of the Primary Seven children, they gave their pirate a name and created a simple profile. The Primary Seven then used their imagination to take this one step further and write wanted poster for each of the pirates. Dancing the hornpipe, singing pirate songs and pretending to walk the plank added more fun elements to what has been a brilliant topic.
