Measuring

1st Oct 2020

Primary 4 & 5 have been learning about the blue whale and they were trying to visualise the size of a typical, fully grown blue whale. We wondered would it be longer than the length of the tarmac area at the front of our school. First of all, we found out that this type of whale could be up to 33m long. Then we decided to measure the length of the tarmac using a trundle wheel- Sean Mc Auley was given this role and we all helped with the counting. We found out that the length of our playground at the front of the school was 37.5m. This meant that a blue whale could just about fit into it. Before measuring the playground, all the boys and girls gave their estimate of the length. Well done to Ruth, Danann and Jacob who all gave the closest estimates.
