BIG SUMMER READ
The Challenge:
This summer, Libraries NI is challenging primary school pupils from all corners of Northern Ireland to read nine books over the course of nine wonderful weeks! Our aim is to encourage children to choose books that truly captivate their interest. Whether they are short reads of 20 pages or longer ones spanning 100 pages, the essence of the challenge is to encourage children to read during their downtime.
Why pupils should take part:
Recognising that children’s literacy skills might slide during the holiday period, we believe that maintaining a reading habit throughout July and August can help to combat this trend. Using the library is free and open to all and library staff can offer suggestions and hints about what to read next.
How pupils can take part:
Beginning on Monday 1 July, we are extending a warm welcome to children to visit any of our libraries, where a treasure trove of books awaits. From thrilling adventures to heart-warming tales, there are books to suit every young reader’s taste. Children, parents and carers can borrow nine books on their card each time they visit.
How you can help:
You can help by inspiring pupils to make regular visits to a library this summer because as a teacher your encouragement makes a world of difference.
It may also be useful to remind parents that with a Libraries NI card, children not only gain access to a variety of books in their nearest library, but they also have the freedom to explore the collections of 95 other libraries scattered across Northern Ireland. This flexibility allows for easy borrowing and returning of books, making it convenient for families spending their holidays closer to home.
Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for more information about events in libraries this summer!
In addition to the above, there will be a number of events taking place across your local Causeway Coast & Glens Libraries, which more information can be found from the website, social media and by contacting the local branch.
I would be extremely grateful if you could share the attached information on any platform/forum you may have available and also share with any persons/departments/groups within your network who may be interested in the above.
Much appreciated and please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries or wish to discuss any of the above in further detail.
Kind Regards
Brett
