BBC Wildlife Challenge

17th Dec 2019

Jo Mulholland very kindly gave up her time to come in to the school today to encourage the children to take part in the BBC Wildlife Challenge.

The children had been asked to bring in an apple and a used plastic bottle. The first thing was to make a feeder for the birds, they had to core the apple, thread string through it and spear some sticks through the apple to give the birds something to stand on. They then pushed sunflower seeds into their apple for added nutrients for the birds.

Next they made minibeast shelters using bottles, twigs and moss.

Finally they created a hedgehog hotel in a corner of the field to protect any visiting hedgehogs during hibernation.

The children really enjoyed their afternoon, hopefully this will encourage them to look out for wildlife in their home environments.
