Active Travel School Mark Gold Award
St. Patrick's Primary School have been awarded with the Sustrans active travel School Mark Gold.
The award is presented to schools who successfully promote active travel and we are one of only six schools in Northern Ireland to receive the prestigious gold award.
Though the assessment we were commended on our pupils' engagement in active travel and their involvement in the decision making process. Also, teachers, classroom assistants, senior management and the board of governors were praised on how active travel is championed in our school.
Throughout the process we have had numerous positive experiences in relation to active travel including many events such as The Big Pedal, Walk to School and Cycle to School Weeks, Ditch the Dark Day and much more. Hundreds of children have developed their cycling skills and achieved their cycling proficiency. Children have participated in classroom lessons and assemblies to develop their knowledge and understanding of active travel. These experiences have instilled confidence, independence and awareness of the environment in our children.
This award wouldn't have been possible without the commitment of both our pupils and you the parents. We truly appreciate your support and hope that this continues into the future.
The children will be formally presented with their award when it is safe to do so in the new academic year.
